While planning a men’s fellowship, the Lord wanted to make an impression on our hearts. The world has a tainted perspective of masculinity where things like crying and expressing emotion are often looked at as signs of weakness. Instead, men often become broken beings with a mask to hide themselves as a natural response. I realized this toxic perception had no place in God’s body and stops a lot of men from being open and loving God and His people. It also stops God from perfecting us because we refuse to admit or address the issues, insecurities, hurt, and pain that exists. John 17:19-23 came to my mind immediately.

Although it might be painful to rid ourselves of those perspectives, if we stand united as Men of God and children of God, we can be there to keep our brother from falling into sin and those mindsets that say you have to go through it alone due to lack of emotional expression. True strength comes from God, not the facade created by broken people.

With the phrase “I am my Brothers Keeper”, I hoped it would remind us of our responsibility to keep our brothers accountable and encouraged, and that we allow our relationships to encourage vulnerability so that God can perfect us and produce Godly men and children.
